Introduction
For most institutions, external examiner nominations are most commonly a paper-based process. This results in unnecessary data entry and lack of institutional oversight.
The Guru external examiner nomination system is a suite of functionality available in Guru which provides the following:
- Replacement of traditional paper based nomination forms
- Full process management of nominations including institutional approval
- Provision of contract and acceptance of nomination
- Automatic expiry of external examiner accounts
- Removal of redundant data entry for administrators
Nomination Process
The following diagram describes the nomination process as implemented in Guru.

The basic process flow is this:
- Draft - The nominating user creates the nomination and possibly with the help of the nominee in question completes the basic form and forwards for school endorsement.
- Endorsement - The head of school signs off the nomination for further consideration.
- Admin Processing - This is the stage where if the head of school is not satisfied with nomination he can return it for some information on the form to be amended.
- Institutional Consideration - In this state, someone (the central administrator) at an insitutional level takes control of the this process. If the examiner is not accepted the nomination can be returned some comments or rejected outright. If the examiner is accepted or if the newly accepted examiner accepts the nomination then an account is made in GURU for the new examiner.
